Oldlibraryman: #179 to #186

Along with dozens of business junk mail, I receive dozens of address stickers from organizations soliciting donations for any number of worthy causes. I give donations to some of them, but only one each year. They continually send requests, even after I inform them that I will contribute only once each year. I throw most of the stickers away, but some I keep and use, and some I keep for the designs on the labels. I haven’t used them for mail art, but I decided to do a few sticker mania envelopes before I head off to Alaska for two weeks.

I was born in Louisville, Kentucky, USA, in 1947. I was a classroom teacher of various subjects for 25 years before becoming a school librarian at which I labored for 18 years. I finally retired at the end of the 2015/16 school year, figuring that 43 years was long enough. I have been married for 48 years and have five children and three grandsons.

These are great! I am still amazed by how much junk mail you get. It’s a colossal amount. Surely, when you return to sender aren’t they supposed to unsubscribe you?

Some of these come to my daughter who lives in my basement. As you can see, most of these are from credit card issuing banks. I get several a week, even from the companies with which I already have an account. I always return the envelops empty, so they are having to pay postage both ways and have nothing but my decorated envelop to show for their efforts to get more of my money, what little there is.
