068 – Treasure Flower

By 26th April 2017Mailart

So many possibilities for the letter T. Tulips? Nah, too common. Tiger lily? Nah, done a lily already.

Every now and again with this series we get an A4 brown envelope and these have so far been my favourites. They take an absolute age to draw and colour but the effect is always beautiful. This one took 2 and a hlf hours to draw and 3 hours to colour, but I think you’ll agree it was worth it

Yes indeed. And agreed – the brown envelop makes a good background. I like their texture to work on as a rule too – do you?

Oh, I hate colouring brown envelopes. The very poor quality and roughness of the paper makes it difficult for the pencils colour to stick to the paper. I appreciate that they are made from recycled paper but it’s the worst quality I’ve ever had to colour on.

I love the fact that brown envelopes scan with the proper colours. The scanner we have gets confused when we scan white envelopes and it throws the colours off completely. But I personally think that white is too stark and that brown puts less psychological pressure on the artist to fill the space.
