060a&b – The 1930s Entrance Hall at Eltham Palace

By 11th July 2017Mailart

As a child, I grew up in South East London and often went to Eltham, but had absolutely no idea it had a palace in  it. I guess I always thought that the area I grew up in was the least glamorous place that could exist in the whole world and that everywhere else must be more exciting.

After having drawn this piece, I am itching to visit the palace, but not that keen to actually visit the old stomping grounds. I guess I feel that I’ve finally got out of that unglamorous place and now don’t want to go back, despite photographic evidence that it’s not as bad as I thought.

Does everyone feel like this about the place they grew up I wonder?

    Highly stylish image.
And good question. I guess it’s never the same if you go back but maybe that’s a good thing. Or just take rose-tinted specs.
