The original postcard dates back to July 1969 and was esnt from Wales to Preston. Audley had had a lovely holiday, but the weather was unsettled today . The boys enjoyed Caernarvon castle, which judging by the picture, looks like it must have been a great place to visit. Curiously though the sender states that “The decorations are still up”.
It’s July!?! Am I missing a Welsh celebration or something?
I’ve been really stuck between number 54 and 55 and yesterday Jimmy Connors sent me an email complimenting my process. This card had been drawn but I couldn’t match the colours for the castle, so it had remained stuck in limbo since January, with some watercoloured boats and a whole lot of blank white space besides.
When I read Jimmy’s email I decided that I had to break my artistic block, so I asked Elena to colour for me and she did a wonderful job in pencils.
With the survey post work giving me a couple of quiet weeks for the next couple, I hope I can get this 365 kick-started again!
I’m looking forward to seeing some more of these split/double postcards – always fun to see how they work out. This one is a great team effort.
A bit of googling =
The Investiture of HRH The Prince of Wales at Caernarfon Castle, 1st July 1969.
So that’s what the decorations were for!
Oh brilliant! It didn’t occur to me to look it up. The postcard was postmarked 28th July, so it would appear that the decorations were left up for at least a month. It was a big event though, so I’d imagine that they wanted to keep the feeling going for a while
