Watercolour pens and fineliner formed the base of this and I replicated the cuts in number 31, before concentrating on the white building in the background.
I’m not overly pleased with my choice of third cut, as it wasn’t a complete cut across the whole postcard from one side to the other, and I don’t think this was the right cut to have made, so probably won’t replicate this cut in the fourth iteration.
It’s nice to have loads of copies of this particular piece and the luxury of being able to get things wrong. The process and the journey is as important as the result.
I really like this technique you’ve developed and the practice in drawing and painting it must involve. Do you know others who are doing similar with postcards? I can think of altered postcards but not the splicing so far.
Thanks Stripygoose. As far as i’m aware, i know nobody else who has ever done this. I’ve seen quite a few examples of people taking photos and merging them with old postcards but not creating new works and twinning them, so I think I’m a pioneer in this one. Let me know if you find out any different. It’s fun charting a new course in this field!
Pioneer indeed – nothing the same I’m aware of.
